Our take
3/5China Camp State Park gives families two ways to shape an outdoor birthday: a day-use visit or a stay at its campground. The San Rafael setting suits a child who wants a park outing and a family comfortable organizing the occasion. Choose the format before deciding how many friends to invite.
The campsites are walk-in, which matters if you are weighing an overnight celebration. Think through carrying equipment and managing the group's belongings before committing to camping. A day-use plan avoids that overnight task while keeping the park visit at the center of the birthday.
