The Houston Zoo rents its Red Pavilion in the Children's Zoo to families for three hours on weekends. The $800 package also covers 25 party passes for kids and adults. Each pass includes zoo admission, unlimited carousel rides, a conservation bracelet and a giraffe feeding at the 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. slot. The pavilion is indoors with heat and air conditioning and seats up to 50, which counts for a lot in a Houston summer.
No one from the zoo runs the party, so you plan the route and keep the group together. Outside food is welcome as long as nothing needs heating. Balloons, piñatas and confetti are banned to protect the animals. Extra passes cost $30, parties are for children 12 and under, and weekend parking fills early.
