Our take
2.5/5Avocado Lake Park has the makings of a picnic birthday: a playground for play breaks, picnic space and BBQs for gathering around a meal. The reservable Ernest Lawrence Pavilion gives parents a specific place to investigate for a group celebration. That combination suits a family comfortable organizing its own activities and food.
The county's warning about elevated E. coli in the lake materially changes the appeal of a water-centered birthday here. Keep swimming out of the party plan while that warning applies, and check current county guidance before deciding how to use the park.
